Premium Audiophile Re-Tipped Cartridges
I have several high-end cartridges that have been re-tipped by master craftsman Joseph Long a.k.a. Groovetickler (you can read about him and his work here). He gets high quality stones and is meticulous with his rebuilds. Functionally, these are brand new cartridges. Some of these are better than the original article. All of them will knock your audio socks off. I’m in awe of how he everything he touches sounds stunning. All prices include installation.
Michell Cusis E retip, upgrade — $1650
Joseph took a Michell Cusis E cartridge and got it as close as he could to a Cusis M ($3800 retail) by adding a boron cantilever with a nude 0.12 mm square Orbray r/R 2/80 micron Micro Ridge extended line contact diamond stylus. This is a glorious sounding super high-end LOMC cartridge. If you’re dabbling in that market, you have to hear this one.
Grace F9 cartridge with retipped E stylus — $650
I have become obsessed with Grace F9s. I had Joseph redo a Ruby stylus for me a couple years back and it had been my daily player until he recently shipped me two re-tipped ellipticals. Now the Ruby has to fight it out with one of these new guys. Joseph worked his magic using a new tapered hardened aluminum-magnesium alloy cantilever and an Ogura Vital PE true ellipsoid hyperelliptical line contact diamond stylus. These are arguably the best moving magnet cartridges ever made and they will make you a believer once you hear one.
Sumiko Talisman S retipped — $495
Joseph installed a solid sapphire half cantilever telescope to attempt to match and/or exceed the original 1980’s design (see review here). He also mounted a nude Ogura Vital PE 8/18 um elliptical diamond. A superb LOMC cartridge from one of the premier cartridge crafters. This will easily outperform any similarly priced new LOMCs.
Denon DL-160 re-tipped — $450
I sell a lot of DL-110s. Everyone who hears one of these HOMCs wants one. The stereo soundstage is immense and the tone is silky smooth. The DL-160 ups the ante with a tapered cantilever which is a significant and easily audible upgrade. I found a DL-160 in great shape except the tip had gone AWOL. Joseph upgraded it with a nude 8/70 line contact diamond. If you are a fan of the DL-110, you will love this.
Dynavector 10×4 re-tipped — $350
This is a classic HOMC cartridge in essentially new condition. The original cantilever and suspension were in excellent shape so Joseph just replaced the tip with an Ogura Vital PE 8/18 elliptical diamond.
